I’m Covered in Labrador Love Feb 2005
I’m covered in
Labrador love.
I, under the
comforter,
my dog lies above.
Stretched out
on the bed,
over my feet
he lays his big,
soft Labrador head.
I’m covered in
Labrador love.

Merry Christmas to you my neighbor -
the ones I know so well.
A friendly hug now and then
we stop and chat,
catching up on health, family
and neighborhood news.
Or we drive by with a wave
that says more than just hello.
You know I care
and we are there for each other.
Everyday I pass your house
I wish you love.
Merry Christmas to you my neighbor -
the ones I know only in passing.
We talk about the weather
and you pet my dog, Merlin
when we meet on the street.
I know life has not been easy lately.
I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you.
But everyday I pass your house
I wish you joy.
Merry Christmas to you my neighbor -
the ones I do not know.
I have waved to you as you drive by
while I walk Merlin.
You always wave back
and if I was feeling lonely
I no longer did.
I have heard you are feuding
with your neighbors
(the ones I know in passing told me so)
But I have no gripe with you.
Everyday I pass your house
I wish you peace.
Merry Christmas to you dear reader –
you probably know me better
than I know you (is that fair?)
We meet here monthly
to share thoughts, goofy poems,
a sketch and hopefully, inspiration.
Thank you
for letting me reach out
and maybe even, now and then,
touch your heart with mine.
May you be blessed
with health, love and happiness
and may your home be filled
with laughter and peace
now and throughout the new year.
May
the still,
quiet beauty
of the earth
nourish your soul,
fill your heart with love,
and bless the world
with peace.
There is a holy moment
between each restless urge.
A quiet, waking moment
on which the soul can splurge.
It’s nothing you would fancy
or grasp in eager clutch.
Jewelry stores don’t carry it
nor would a boutique’s hutch.
It’s not in a meal that’s well prepared
nor a drink so finely mixed.
No mansion could enclose it
nor body, swan-like fixed.
It’s just a holy moment
between each restless urge
when mind and body quiet
and hearts with God have merged.
Only in winter do I get to see
What my dog is sniffing
On his walks with me.
Bunnies, deer, mice and opossum
Have left tracks that must really
smell quite awesome.
His actions tell me there’s value in the find
Of a tender morsel
An animal left behind.
He wags and rolls and rolls some more
To come up with a fragrance
I truly abhor.
“Oh you naughty boy!” I yell, shaking my head
“You’re not getting that smell
all over my bed!”
So at home he obliges and jumps in the tub
Shampoo and water
Scrub a dub-dub.
His soft Labrador coat now shiny and bright
With a fragrance less natural
He smells just right!
This Christmas I wish you
not a thing -
no fancy gift
no expensive ring
not even a toy
of temporary joy
This Christmas I wish you
so much less -
less guilt and shame
less resentment
less fear
less bitterness and pain
This Christmas I wish you
what is very near -
trees covered with snow
big fluffy clouds
a stranger’s smile
a friend’s hand
This Christmas I wish you
what you already have -
a loving heart
a forgiving spirit
and the wisdom of a thousand angels
by your side
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Most of us don’t feel too holy
as we imagine the holy might feel.
But when everyday is Christmas
we are much more kind.
Little things are big things
and the world
is more sublime.
A door held open for a stranger
a prayer for another in need.
Eyes to see the beauty
hidden in
the tinniest seed.
the smallest task is filled with love.
And each mundane moment
is gift from
the heavens above.
May the Spirit of Christmas
shine in you
and bless you
throughout the New Year!
When I am content and seek nothing new
yet delight in all I see
I am at home
When the sound of my husband’s snoring
wakes me up
Merlin farts
and Little Buddy chases squirrels in his dreams
I am at home
When morning reveals cedars heavy with snow
birds are waiting for seeds
and deer cross the field
I am at home
When dishes need to be washed
closets cleaned
carpet vacuumed
and my piles of clothes sorted
(even if I ignore them)
I am at home
When a friend calls and beacons me to lunch
souls meet
laughter shared
and ideas exchanged
I am at home
When pots are trimmed
bowls painted
floors mopped
and my husband returns home with a kiss
I am at home
When I am content and seek nothing new
yet delight in all I see
I am at home
